Surgery Pod
Have you tried our Surgery Pod?
The Surgery Pod is in a private room on the first floor of Wokingham Medical Centre in the corner of the waiting room as you come up the main stairs behind a frosted glass door. Patients can perform their own checks, without clinical supervision, such as blood pressure, height, weight, alcohol usage etc. these are then instantaneously updated into your patient record and can be viewed by members of the health team.
What is a Surgery Pod?
The Surgery Pod is a secure computer system which accurately records your patient data. It is not a replacement for your doctor or nurse but an additional resource for the surgery.
What are the benefits to the patients?
The Surgery Pod allows you to perform simple checks at your own convenience, without making an appointment. The Surgery Pod is available to use between the hours of 8:00am and 6:00pm. You may wish to do your blood pressure before you go in to see the doctor or nurse so they already have this key information before your consultation giving you more time to discuss your health.
What checks can you do using the Surgery Pod:
- Take your blood pressure
- Take your height, weight, and calculate your BMI
- Enter information regarding your lifestyle i.e., smoking, alcohol, exercise, and diet.
- Carry out a Contraceptive Pill Check Please note: you can only use the pod if you have been on your contraceptive pill for the last 12 months and are not experiencing any side effects from the pill) Please let the receptionist know that you have completed the check and then they can request an issue of your contraceptive pill.
How does it work?
You simply interact with a touchscreen computer to guide you through the process. After you enter your name and date of birth you follow the easy step-by-step instructions. Here is the typical process you will go through:
- Enter your name and date of birth
- Select your check e.g., ‘blood pressure check’
- Follow the on-screen instructions
After you complete the check, your results are automatically saved on your patient record.
Who can use it?
Every patient. You don’t have to use the Surgery Pod – but regardless of your technical knowledge you will easily be able to use it and it will allow us to keep better track of your latest readings.
